Dear Community,
I’m excited to introduce Mireya Gomez-Contreras as Arts Council Santa Cruz County’s new Deputy Director. Mireya comes to this role with a deep connection to our community, a lifelong commitment to social justice, and as a passionate advocate for using arts and culture to connect people and ideas.
As Deputy Director, Mireya will lead our work in Watsonville, support the Tannery Arts Center and Grants Program teams, and forward our work to stand together with, uplift, and equitably resource artists and arts organizations across our county.
Mireya is an intuitive collaborator and a skilled cultural interpreter, convener, and facilitator. Born in Watsonville, she has been deeply engaged in movement building to uplift her diverse community since she was young. Mireya was the Director of Employment Programs at Community Action Board Santa Cruz County, established and managed the first Day Worker Center on the Central Coast, and has served on the Watsonville Parks & Recreation and Planning Commissions. Having been the Arts Council’s Outreach & Bilingual Communications Coordinator, she is well acquainted with our opportunities and challenges.
I’m so pleased to join together with Mireya as thought partners, barrier smashers, rebuilders of a just future, and friends in this vital work. Please join me in welcoming her!
In the coming weeks, we’ll create opportunities for you to get to know her through virtual meet and greets, interviews, and vital conversations about the work ahead. In the meanwhile, please feel free to reach out to Mireya directly to say hello.
