Celebrating Youth Art
Arts Education
byMercedes LewisonMarch 28, 2024

The vibrant creativity of Santa Cruz County students has once again taken center stage at the annual Youth Art Exhibit, a testament to the value of arts education and the dedication of Santa Cruz County schools to nurturing creativity in students.

The exhibit, hosted by Arts Council Santa Cruz County in partnership with the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, showcases over 400 works of art created by students from more than 30 schools. From March 22 to May 6, these inspiring pieces will adorn the walls of the Santa Cruz County Government Center, offering visitors a unique opportunity to appreciate the artistic talents of local youth.

The highlight of the exhibit will be the First Friday Art Tour Reception on May 3 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Santa Cruz County Government Center. Attendees will have the chance to view the artwork up close, participate in hands-on art activities, and enjoy refreshments.

"We’re thrilled to once again showcase the incredible artistic talents of our county's youth at the annual Youth Art Exhibit," said Sarah Brothers, Arts Council Santa Cruz County Arts Education Director. "This event not only provides students with the opportunity to share their artwork with the community but also highlights the importance of arts education in our schools."

The Youth Art Exhibit is a collaborative effort to promote arts education and foster creativity among students. For over thirty years, the Arts Council has supported arts education initiatives in Santa Cruz County through programs like SPECTRA, which matches schools with local artists for residencies.

"We believe that arts learning is essential for every child, every day in every school," added Brothers. "Arts learning encompasses a wide range of experiences, from separate classes in performing and visual arts disciplines to participation in creative activities as part of a learning experience. It's about providing students with the skills, knowledge, and creative thinking processes they need to succeed in the 21st century."

The Youth Art Exhibit not only celebrates the artistic achievements of Santa Cruz County students but also underscores the importance of arts education in fostering creativity, critical thinking, and personal expression. Don't miss this opportunity to support young artists and celebrate the power of youth creativity!
