Hello Friends and Supporters of Arts Council Santa Cruz County,
I wanted to be the first to tell you some exciting news. We have a new Executive Director!
Jim Brown, who has been serving as the Arts Council’s Interim Executive Director, will be stepping into the role permanently, effective immediately!
After months of work with a top nonprofit recruiting firm, and interacting with more than a dozen top candidates culled from hundreds of compelling applicants, the Board ultimately voted unanimously to offer the role to a gifted leader who was already in our midst – Jim.
It’s fair to say that Jim Brown might be one of the best-loved and most-respected nonprofit leaders in Santa Cruz County. We were lucky to have him as part of the Arts Council family already, and his leadership, humility, and deep regard for this community made offering him this role something that was too compelling for the Board to pass up.
For those of you who don’t know Jim well, in addition to his recent work as the Arts Council’s Deputy & Tannery Director, he has also served as a Program Officer with the Community Foundation, and was previously Executive Director of The Diversity Center and the 418 Project. The narrative he weaves through these experiences, and the lessons he has learned as an administrator and leader are fascinating—but they are also, in a way that is distinctively Jim’s, human and real. There will be an opportunity for all of you to hear from Jim about his vision for the Arts Council, and welcome him to his new role soon!
The Board is excited, and I’m personally excited, for Jim. We’re also excited about the course we are on, and for what the next few years might mean and bring for this wonderful organization.
I want to thank all of you for your continued support, particularly in recent months. So many of you have reached out with wisdom, insights, and feedback. Periods of change always contain uncertainty, but I feel the participation of our community of supporters helped keep these stresses to a minimum while we were embarking on our search. We’ve journeyed through a complicated transition together—thank you.
An important shout-out is also due to our Search Committee Chair Laurie Brooks. We could not have asked for a more magnificently fair, neutral, and efficient hand on the tiller. Laurie we all owe you one!
In closing, I’d like to invite you to reach out to Jim
with congratulations, but also please reach out to me with any feedback or thoughts you would care to share with the Board. I can be reached at Jeff@Galipeaux.com, and I welcome hearing from you.
With that, permit me to present the next Executive Director of Arts Council Santa Cruz County – Jim Brown!
