Happy Friday! Dana Peters is a first-time grantee whose gorgeous micro/MACRO exhibit is at Radius Gallery until November 12, 2017. If you haven’t seen the show yet, be sure to check it out! We asked Dana a few questions about her inspiration:What’s one place you go for inspiration (physical or mental)?
I don’t really have a specific spot I go to now. But when I lived in Lawrence, Kansas I would walk out across the Bowersock Dam at night. It was especially exciting in the snow or in a storm. The energy of all of that water rushing through really did something for me, woke me up when I was drained or cleared me out of negative thoughts.
Recent favorite music or food discovery.
Definitely, Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guébrou, an Ethiopian nun who plays the most beautiful piano music.
What’s a recent location discovery in Santa Cruz that you’re excited about?
My home on Swanton Road. We started renting a while back. It is a whole different world out there. So many beautiful things: hawks, quail, mushrooms, trails to incredible lookout points over Waddell creek. It is the most magical place and also home to my 7 amazing chickens: Etta, Billie, Goldy, Big Mama, Nina, Jonesy, and Patsy, named after my favorite singers.
What’s your next project?
My studio mate, Leigh Erickson, and I are in the process of enlivening our studio space, The Art Cave (@theartcavesc). We want it to be a center for artists and creative types in Santa Cruz to meet up for art nights, dinners, critiques, discussions, and art classes.
