Katelyn has been exploring various forms of visual and sculptural art throughout her life. She has studied Art at UC Santa Cruz and Cabrillo College. Katelyn has worked with youth in the Santa Cruz Community since 2011. She began working as a teaching artist in 2014. She has taught and led groups at Branciforte Middle School, STAR Schools, Highlands, Pajaro Valley High School, Watsonville High School, Sequioa Schools, Santa Cruz Juvenile Hall, Lakeview Middle School, Watsonville Charter School of the Arts and Cabrillo Extension.
In the course students will create and design a mural while concurrently learning the fundamentals to drawing and painting. Students will learn about value, perspective, line, texture, composition, color theory, paint techniques for large and small scale, and drawing from a grid. The class participants will choose the mural theme (related to a topic or class theme if applicable) brainstorm the elements and assist in forming the overall design. Students are encouraged to create their own art in incorporate into the final image. From there on we will work together to paint and finish a mural on a wall or other selected surface.
Requirements: Sink, room with no carpet, wall or can be done on moveable surface such as wood
