Ome Garcia is the Mariposa Arts Coordinator and has worked with the program for 5 years, during which time they also taught Art, Poetry, and Hip Hop. They have a background in developmental psychology from UCSC, over 9 years of experience working in student-centered educational settings, and are committed to meeting the needs of the students, teachers, schools we serve. Mx. Garcia is also a professional artist, who has been drawing and writing poetry for 15 years. Their performance work has been featured in the Santa Cruz Hip Hop Festival, Salinas Movement Project Production, the Creativity and Justice Conference, and the Kinetic Poetic Project Slam, among others. They have also painted community murals in both Watsonville and Santa Cruz, and had their artwork exhibited at the Jingletown Artwalk, First Friday Santa Cruz, and the Museum of Art and History.
Hourly Rate: $50 (negotiable)
Materials fees: Approx. $500
Students will be guided to collaboratively design and paint a mural on an interior or exterior wall of the school, as approved by their teacher and school principal. Students will learn proper use of supplies, how to work as a team, to develop their acrylic painting techniques, and feel pride in their valuable contribution to the school campus. Cost and length of residency will depend on detail of design and size of wall. Call or email for more info.

Requirements: Classroom with sink and area to dry artwork
