Each of the following lessons have a teaching time of 1.5 hours (and require an additional 15 min set up, and 15 min clean up). As you will see, some classes can be done as a one time lesson, others may require more than one class meeting. All lessons incorporate both elements of art and science. Many lessons can be easily modified to coincide with current curriculum being taught within the classroom if advance notice is given (2-3 weeks prior). All lessons have been designed to align with CA Content Standards for the Visual Arts, and include extensive art techniques taught in an easy to learn approach, for students to gain confidence in the materials they are using, which facilitates them to be able to draw/create/produce the images they see in their mind.

COMIC & CARTOONING (Drawing & Shading)
Beginning with a quick introduction to shading, and human figure drawing, students will learn how to quickly draw the basic human figure form, with ways on how to manipulate the form into a more stylized comic way. Once students have mastered the basic human form, and ways to distort it, we transition to the face. Students learn how to draw a basic face, and techniques on bringing 'life' into the eyes, and how to draw different noses and mouths. From here students will learn how to modify the facial features to enhance the emotion or energy, and learn that these techniques can be easily carried over to drawing cartoon animals, monsters, aliens, and more.
* 3 classes are ideal, to allow students enough time to master the skills and techniques. However, this course can easily be condensed into 1 class, with keeping in mind the depth of information covered will be less.
Grade Level: K-12
Fess: $50 an hour
LANDSCAPE & PERSPECTIVE (Acrylic or Watercolor)
Students learn skills on how to create 'depth' into their work, by learning how to create atmospheric (aerial) perspective. Students will also learn techniques on painting sky, clouds, foliage, ocean, and mountains, using various mural color mixing techniques and tricks of the trade. The final project consist of a landscape created by the student that incorporates 4 of the 5 techniques they learned earlier in the lesson.
* 5 classes are ideal, to allow students to master the skills and techniques. However, this course can easily be condensed into 3 classes, with less emphasis placed on how to specifically paint clouds, ocean, and mural paint mixing techniques.
Grade Level: 4-12
Fees: $50 an hour
COLOR WHEEL GLOBES (Tempera or Acrylic)
We begin by looking at different types of textured paper and how to identify warm vs. cool colors on a color wheel. Students then are taught various techniques on how to create different textured patterns, as well as how to identify and mix primary, secondary and tertiary colors. Using all the newly made colored/textured paper that is now cut into long strips, students assemble their own color wheel, which is later conformed into a globe, which can be hung up in the class room.
* Requires 2 classes, to allow students to master the skills, techniques, and time for assembling the final project.
Grade Level: 1-6
Fees: $50 an hour
MONO-TYPE PRINTING (Acrylic & Aluminum Foil)
A quick introduction to warm and cool colors start off this class, followed by various mono-type printing techniques. Students get the opportunity to use brayers, and create their own collection of monoprints.
* Requires 1 class, to allow students to master the skills, techniques, and create 3-5 prints
Grade Level: 1-12
Fees: $50 an hour
Paper Collage Art (Watercolor Resist & Oil Pastels)
Using oil pastels and watercolor students learn various watercolor painting techniques, which also include techniques on creating watercolor resist textures. After being shown how to layer and create collaged images, student using the newly created paper, along with paper from magazines and other craft paper, create a portrait or landscape of their choice.
* Requires 3 classes, to allow students to master the skills, techniques, and time for assembling the final project.

Studio Level 1: (Ages 6 - 13)
Students will gain knowledge and develop fundamental skills in working with pencil, charcoal, ink, pastels, watercolor, tempera, acrylic paint, print making and mixed media collage. Students will also get the opportunity to learn basic carving, sculpting, and 3-dimensional building techniques by working with clay, plaster, wood and metal. A basic sketch book/binder is provided to each student, the sketch book will have your students name, and he or she will use it at the start of each art lesson. The start of each class begins with simple instruction on a technique or style, which they can practice on a small scale in their sketch book. The sketch book is also a place where students can come up with some ideas they would like to explore on a larger scale. Because art is a process, and takes time, some projects may be broken up over 2 or more class sessions. Thus, we will be working on 2 or more projects at a time.
[Note: Small snack is provided to the student, at the beginning of the lesson, please notify studio if your child has an allergy]
Studio Level 2: (Ages 11 & Up)
Created for returning students or students who have had 1 to 2 years prior art experience. We will explore in more depth the creative process, and ways to use a variety of studio art mediums. Students will continue to build and expand their art foundation, with the use of pencil, charcoal, ink, pastels, watercolor, tempera, acrylic paint, and mixed media collage. Students will learn how to construct frames, stretch their own canvas, cut a mat, and other display and, art presentation skills. We will begin to look at scientific illustration, and techniques on how to do scientific illustration, and it's uses in academia. Students will refine their 3-dimensional building techniques by working with clay, plaster, wood and metal. A basic sketch book/binder is provided to each student, the sketch book will have your students name, and he or she will use it at the start of each art lesson. The start of each class begins with simple instruction on a technique or style, which they can practice on a small scale in their sketch book.
