Mireya Gomez-Contreras, Deputy Director, Arts Council Santa Cruz County

I believe in the power of collective action to bring about dignity, courage and joy for all beings. I got my work ethic from my farmworker parents, Rosa and Jose. Luckily, I’ve finally learned to balance that out with play which I enjoy most with my two littles, Camila and Sergio. I’ve worked in the nonprofit sector in Santa Cruz County for 25 years. I feel privileged to work as the Deputy Director at Arts Council Santa Cruz County where I can express my creative nature and work directly with people every day. Two things I’m most excited about these days is our decreasing usage of plastic bags and the felt invitation for all of us to partake in antiracist work. My superpower is connecting people around new decision-making tables!
